Scott Criqui was born in Lawrence, Kansas in 1980. When Scott was growing up, he and his family faced many adversities. Scott’s father was regularly unemployed while Scott’s mother was a stay-at-home mom raising Scott and his two brothers with disabilities. Before entering school, Scott was diagnosed with a learning disability. Both of Scott’s parents died young.

With assistance from the community, Scott had opportunities to succeed regardless of those adversities. Scott graduated with honors from West Junior High and Free State High School. After high school, Scott attended the University of Kansas where he became the first in his family to graduate from college with a bachelor’s degree in communication studies and psychology.  Scott also earned his master’s degree from Webster University in human resource management.

Scott has been a part of the Lawrence non-profit community for nearly 15 years. He currently serves as the Human Resources Manager and Interim Executive Director for Trinity In-Home Care where he is accountable for a $2.1 million budget and more than 200 staff. Under Scott’s leadership, Trinity has seen their turnover reduced by 44 percent, new-hire costs decrease by 85 percent, and the customer base increase by 210 percent. Prior to working at Trinity, Scott worked as a trainer for Headquarters Counseling and volunteer coordinator for Hospice Care of Douglas County.

Community involvement and economic development are of great importance to Scott. He is a 2010 graduate of the Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Lawrence Program and the 2012 recipient of the League of Women Voters Helen Fluker Award. Scott is also chair of the City of Lawrence Human Relations Commission and he recently completed service on the City of Lawrence Task Force for Retiree Attraction.  Scott is a representative for the Voter Education Coalition and serves as a volunteer for the Culture of Festivals sponsored by the Lawrence Alliance Board.  He is on the Advisory Board for the Community Career Connection, as well as serving as the vice chair of the Kansas Equality Coalition.

Scott believes strongly that education is fundamental to an individual’s success in life. He serves as an advisory member, overseeing curriculum development, at Pinnacle Career College. He was also an instructor at Concorde Career College where he taught a variety of courses to future health care professionals. Additionally, Scott volunteers to coach KU, Haskell, and Johnson County Community College students on best practices for effective job searches.

Scott lives in the Pinckney neighborhood with James, his partner of nine years, and their two dogs Ruby, an American dingo and Rowen, a Belgium shepherd.
